Item Description

Attention Rhodochrosite and / or German mineral collectors! This is almost certainly the best specimen of Rhodochrosite that I've had to offer from Freiberg, though admittedly they are INCREDIBLY hard to find! This piece is not only remarkably rare, but it's actually beautiful as it features lovely "rosettes" of fine pink Rhodochrosite comprising compressed rhombohedra measuring up to about 6 mm across. Additionally the Rhodos are associated with silvery cuboctahedral Galena along with Acanthite (Argentite) and micro crystals of a "Ruby Silver" (either Pyrargyrite or Proustite) plus Quartz on matrix. Rhodochrosite is not what one thinks of when it comes to minerals from Freiberg, so if you collect this particular species or minerals from Germany, you cannot afford to miss out on this fantastic eye-catching display specimen! Valued at $1,500 for quality and scarcity. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8515). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
