Item Description

An interesting and certainly hard to find "locality" specimen of Rhodochrosite featuring at leat two generations of pink to red rhombohedra which are growing in an interesting parallel formation and appear to possibly to be forming a pseudomorph after a preexisting larger rhomb of Rhodo. The crystals have great sharpness and luster, combined with good translucency/gemminess. The final touch to the piece is some small white Quartz crystals and micro Pyrite pyritohedra. The largest Rhodochrosite rhomb measures 6 mm across. This is the only Rhodochrosite specimen I have seen from this locality, which notably is known for being the first locality where Hubnerite was found in Colorado. A pair of numbers are glued to the base of the piece (3 and R1RC).
