Item Description

Mineral specimens from this obscure old mine south of Staffel and Limburg are RARE. Lustrous, translucent, rose-red rhodochrosite botryoids with frosted faces are scattered on two sides of the hefty gossan matrix. The botryoids reach 5 mm on this rare old-timer. Ex Kay Robertson Collection #10809 and acquired from Harvey Gordon in Reno in September, 1985. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). The century old faded label on the back says Ober Neissen. There is an Oberneisen south of Limburg. An intriguing, showy and rare German rhodochrosite. It resembles rhodochrosite from the famous Wolf Mine in Siegerland.
