Item Description

RARE, old-time, rich large rhodochrosite from this ancient Fe-Pb-Cu district where mining started about 2500 years ago and the last mines closed in 1965! Sparkly, vivid pastel-pink nubby spherical aggregates of tiny rhodochrosite blades accented with glassy quartz points and a 7 mm light brown nubby siderite ball cover the top of the sculptural large piece. An earlier generation of dense botryoidal banded rhodochrosite comprises the base of this most impressive, very rich rhodo combination. Ex W.S. Logan Collection # X18-3 and illustrated on Page 127 of his 2013 self-published book, Rhodochrosite - Crystals of Drama and Nuance (available by request). Valued at $1000-1500 for rarity, unique style, exceptional quality, size and age. There are two century-old collection numbers and price labels on the piece, adding character to this very rich two-generation combination rhodo.
