Item Description

A very fine, large, so called "cathedral" rhodochrosite from the major finds at the Potosi Mine in the 1970s and 80s. The elongated lustrous, translucent pinkish-red tapered scalenohedron is composed of parallel-growth crystals. This impressive and excellent large 360-degree example of this uncommon style is pristine and is nicely accented on all sides with drusy quartz. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7454 and acquired in an exchange from the Lidstrom's in August, 1982. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A classic and excellent large elongated rhodochrosite of this style with quartz.
