A superb, old slice from top AAA-grade rhodochrosite. This is a style that came out of this famous locality in the 1980s, and seldom since have we ever seen such robust color, such intricate banding, and quality in a piece this size. The final photo shows strong backlighting, which makes the color go more cherry red. The other photos show really quite standard halogen room lighting, with no special intense backlighting. 355 grams. A gorgeous display or decorative item, that probably would sell for far more in a more mainstream natural history auction. From an estate collection. Note - the piece is polished to top luster, on both sides.
