Item Description

Gemmy and lustrous, light cherry-red rhodochrosite rhombs are aesthetically scattered on the contrasting matrix of lustrous, metallic-gray, tetrahedrite crystals and quartz crystals on this showy specimen from the late 1990s Pincushion II Pocket at the famous and now-closed Sweet Home Mine. The beautiful, central rhomb is 1.1 cm on the diagonal and is nearly pristine, with only trivial edgewear on a lower corner. The largest crystal is cleaved, but it still adds color and character to this classic material. Combination rhodo with sulfide specimens are always desirable, because of the striking contrasting colors. The piece was priced at $200 at the time.
