Item Description

An unusual and rare style of rhodochrosite from the famed Poudrette Quarry. This is uniquely different rhodochrosite from Mont Saint-Hilaire. The dense sculptural cluster of odd flattened "trigonal" twinned crystals look like macle or contact twins! AND the translucent tannish-pink rhodos have a striking odd secondary overgrowth of lighter color rhodochrosite along the edges. The few attached aegirine needles add character. These are not typical rhombs from the Poudrette, Sweet Home Mine, other Colorado localities, Peru or the classic dogtooth spikes from the Kalahari! This was probably collected from a single pocket in the late 1970s, with none since. Classic, singular style and excellent Poudrette rhodo from the Jim Robison and W.S. Logan collections. Valued by Bill Logan at $375 for rare style and richness.
