Rhodochrosite (unusual habit)

When it comes to China, there are many discoveries that have redefined lots of mineral species in terms of size and quality. Without question, the largest crystals of Rhodochrosites have been found at the Wutong Mine, though they are not the same quality as those from the Sweet Home Mine or the N'Chwaning Mines. This piece features an unusual habit for the locality as it is filled with notably compressed / flattened rhombs of Rhodochrosite with a beautiful red and pink layered coloring. The almost look like ice cream sandwiches or Oreo cookies with a red interior wedged between the outer pink cookies. The largest Rhodo crystal measures 1.7 cm across. A sprinkling of gemmy colorless Quartz makes for a nice touch. Very little damage. This is a must have specimen for any fan of Chinese minerals or worldwide Rhodochrosites as this particular style has only found for a very brief time. Valued at $2,000 in the inventory.
