Rhodochrosite (unusual style)

Item Description

Uncommon and very showy rhodochrosite with three distinct styles of crystallization from the famous deposits at Capillitas. The outer surface of the sculptural mounded piece is composed of rich rose-red to various shades of pastel-pink botryoidal rhodochrosite. The back of the mound is RARE coarse granular/crystallized rhodochrosite and the bottom furrowed/elongated, where the piece was attached to rhodochrosite stalactites. Rhodochrosite from here is famously, commonly botryoidal or banded. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection, a well-known New Jersey collector. Exotic and unusual looking rhodochrosite from the noted locale. Probably from the 1980s.
