Item Description

The famous Wolf Mine in Siegerland, Germany is noted for having produced the finest crystallized rhodochrosite specimens in Europe and for many years were considered the finest in world. The mine operated continuously from 1870 to 1925 and then sporadically until 1962. Good specimens are today quite difficult to find and are very highly desirable. This aesthetic miniature features beautiful, pristine, radial clusters of rich salmon-pink rhodochrosite scalenohedrons to 1.0 cm strategically placed on the end of the limonitic matrix. More rhodos on both sides really add pazzazz. Rare for the locale, highly lustrous goethite botryoids richly cover the back of the plate. It is very aesthetic for the locality and could be trimmed into a killer thumbnail, too! Classic and excellent old-time rhodochrosite.
