Item Description

An adorable old rhodochrosite miniature from the famous mines at Butte. Classic, sharp pretty pastel-pink rhombs are aesthetically scattered on the matrix wedge of quartz and sulfides. The prominent central rhomb is 9 mm on the diagonal and the piece is beautifully accented by the small quartz crystal corsage. A small rhomb on one end is cleaved, but is certainly only a modest detraction. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 237 and acquired from the Bradley's in the early 1950s, while the mines were active. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record) and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Fine old-time Butte rhodo.
