Item Description

This mine is renowned for it's superb pink Rhodochrosite specimens which are sometimes associated with green Fluorites. Typically the fluorites from the Sunnyside mine are octahedral in habit, and this 1.0 cm sharp, gemmy, very pale green Fluorite crystal is highly modified, but still has an octahedral form and is sitting on crystallized, soft pink color Rhodochrosite matrix! This is the ideal combination (Fluorite with Rhodochrosite) for collectors of this material, and it is almost impossible to find on the market today. Overall, the piece is in good condition and is accented with minor sulfides (Sphalerite, Chalcopyrite) Some of the most classic and HIGHLY sought after Fluorites in all of the U.S. came from the historic Sunnyside mine in San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. A very attractive and worthwhile specimen from the well known Colorado collection of Rich Kosnar and was mined in 1966. Valued at $800-$900.
