Item Description

The world famous Sweet Home Mine for many years was the source of what most people consider to be the finest Rhodochrosite crystals in the world in terms of quality and quantity. Sweet Home specimens are always in demand on the market today, and beloved in the mineral world. This piece is a fine quality association specimen featuring several sharp, gemmy, rich red colored rhombs of Rhodochrosite measuring up to 2.3 cm which are associated with glistening, gemmy, lovely purple colored Fluorite along with minor sulfides sitting on GEM to translucent colorless "needle" Quartz crystals on host rock matrix. The piece is not completely damage free, as the main rhomb is not complete. It should be noted that while some of the accessory Rhodos might appear to be damaged, I looked closely, and they are actually recrystallized ("re-healed") with tiny crystal faces that you can see clearly with a loupe. This combination of Rhodochrosite with Fluorite is fairly uncommon and desirable from the Sweet Home Mine. These will always be classics, and it's difficult to know if anything from the Detroit City Mine will approach the same size and quality as what was found in the Sweet Home, so pick these up while you can. It would make a nice addition to any Colorado suite or a collection of Sweet Home material. Priced at $4,500 in the inventory.
