Item Description

There are a lot of localities for Rhodochrosite in Colorado, and while the Champion Mine is well known to Colorado collectors, specimens are seldom available on the market. The piece features dozens if not hundreds of sharp, beautiful pink color, semi-lustrous, compressed rhombohedra of Rhodochrosite forming "rosette"-esque groups with exposed areas of metallic golden Pyrite on host rock matrix. This is a beautiful cabinet sized display quality specimen from this hard to find locality in southwestern Colorado. The largest Rhodo crystals measures about 3 mm, and they are beautiful up close. You won't find many of these around anymore, so if you collect Colorado minerals or worldwide Rhodochrosites, do NOT miss out on this one. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California. You can read Gary's obituary here https://www.dcourier.com/news/2019/apr/27/obituary-gary-richard-weaver/. This piece is priced at $1,300 in the inventory.
