Item Description

Rhodochrosite from the San Juan mountains is one of the staples of any good Colorado or Rhodochrosite collection. The Mountain Monarch mine has produced some superb Rhodochrosites in its day, and sadly, this mine is now closed and will no longer produce these great specimens. This piece hosts a predominant attractive light pink color rhombohedron of Rhodochrosite with sharp faces and a rich pink color inside when the crystal is backlit. It is accented by smaller Rhodo rhombs which are sitting on gemmy, stubby Quartz crystals with minor associated Chalcopyrite. A great thumbnail for any Rhodochrosite collector, or a collector of Colorado minerals. The piece was collected by Harvey Gordon in the 1970s.
