Item Description

A classic specimen hosting a 7 mm sharp, well-formed, prismatic Rhodonite with a few larger additional (incomplete) crystals of Rhodonite on typical white Calcite matrix. The complete Rhodonite crystal has good form and sharp faces for the locality. This material is some of the most well known (and easily recognizable) from all of Franklin. A nice miniature sized specimen of this world famous material. Please note: The label accompanying this piece states that it is the Zn- and Ca-bearing variety known as "Fowlerite", but I don't know think this is correct as it looks like regular Rhodonite often seen from Franklin. The label also states that the piece is from the Palmer Shaft (Palmer Mine) at Franklin, but I also this is not correct. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#311). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
