Item Description

Broken Hill is one of the great world mineral localities, and did a great deal for the overall prosperity of Australia. Rhodonites from Broken Hill are some of the most beautiful specimens in the mineral world, and by far the greatest examples of the species ever found. Most Rhodonite crystals from around the world are typically opaque and pink, but the Broken Hill specimens are GEMMY and RED! Euhedral, gemmy crystals are not easy to find these days on the market, and they are certainly sought after by collectors. This specimen featuresa robust, thick, fairly sharp, well-formed, good quality, prismatic crystal of Rhodonite with classic fiery gemmy red color when backlit associated with minor grey-black Galena. The crystal is actually doubly-terminated, though I wouldn't call it a complete "floater". Keep in mind that the majority of these specimens were mined before 1950, and some date back as far as 1900. Priced at $4,000 in our inventory. From the collection of Brian Kosnar
