Item Description

Outstanding and hefty, this cabinet-sized specimen is composed primarily of Romanechite, a relatively uncommon barium, manganese oxide. The gunmetal-grey layer of Romanechite is a substantial 1-2 cm thick with an attractive, metallic luster that contrasts wonderfully with the sparkle of the black, velvety surface. The white, translucent Quartz, itself nicely layered, creates a drusy sparkle where it overlays the Romanechite. A very close look at the Quartz allows you to really appreciate the detailed banding and texture in these white 'dunes'. This fine piece is from a very uncommon New Mexico locality near Lordsburg, Hidalgo County.
