A lot of the gem grade Rubies on the market today have been mined in Myanmar (Burma), but that supply is now completely shut off, as last we heard there is no mining in Mogok, and the market has been abandoned due to the COVID pandemic and civil unrest in the nation. With that said, there are other places in Southeast Asia that produce good Rubies, but the supply seems to be running short. Ruby from Thailand is not terribly common on the market today, and this stone is a great example of the old classic gems from years ago. This stone is a wonderful "Oval Brilliant" cut gem with rich red color and a slight pinkish overtone, and only very slight inclusions. Odds are this stone has been heated to improve its clarity, which is a perfectly safe and accepted practice in the gem world, so long as both the buyer and customer are aware that the stone has been treated. With demand at a high point, the prices being paid for top Rubies these days is as big as ever, as these gems still command a premium value on the market.
