Item Description

Ruby gemstones from Mogok, Myanmar are among the most storied gems in the world. Some of the finest Rubies in the world are found in the Mogok area. This gem has an attractive pink-red color, and is certainly gem quality in clarity. It has a "Round Step" cut. These are absolutely some of the most popular Rubies in the world. It should be noted that this stone is 100% natural and NOT glass-filled or treated in any way, which is rare as the majority of Rubies on the market are treated or glass-filled, which is a technique used to improve the clarity of Rubies, and is an acceptable practice so long as the buyer is aware that they are buying a glass-filled stone. Buy this gem now because they will be disappearing from the market rapidly due to political upheaval and the effects of the pandemic in Myanmar. Mining has all but ceased, and the mineral market in Mogok is completely closed. This stone is from the estate of former Phoenix area dealer Marvin Rockey. Rockey's Gems was a significant business in the early days of Arizona lapidary material, and he was a prominent dealer and buyer in the Arizona area of local lapidary and carving material from throughout the state, including Bisbee, the Ray Mine, Miami mines, and the Peridot finds on Indian lands in the 1950s-1970s. This stone was kept back from the retail stock for its quality and beauty, in a tray of special material, and was found in his estate (sold to us only recently). Today, these are not only rarely seen but of a highly desirable old quality, and sought after by collectors and gem / jewelry enthusiasts alike.
