Item Description

When it comes to Spinel, nothing tops the Ruby Red color which made Spinels famous. In fact, the term "Ruby Spinel" is derived from the fact that the Crown Jewels of England: Black Prince's Ruby is actually a Spinel! The stone was long thought to be a blood red Ruby when in fact it was discovered to be a gigantic Spinel that is estimated to weigh over 170 carats!! This stone exhibits a strong pink-red color. It is a nice, very very slightly included "Modified Octagon" cut gemstone, which is not common for the material as most are cut into "Round" and "Oval" shapes.. It is difficult to find superb quality Spinels because of political upheaval in southeast Asia. It appears that these stones will soon be very very hard to come across and the days of the good Ruby Spinels may be dwindling.
