Item Description

A classic and outstanding, old-time sphalerite on chert small cabinet from the famous Joplin Field. A very sharp, highly lustrous, partially translucent, rich orange-red, 4.4 x 3.5 x 3.4 cm, tapered sphalerite crystal is very aesthetically set on the chert matrix plate accented with smaller sphalerites. The bottom hosts a MAJOR bonus, as it is richly peppered with GEM cherry-red rubyjack crystals to 5 mm. The striking large crystal is complete all-around and nearly pristine. The front is pristine and the light bruising to the termination on the back is out-of-sight in the primary display view. CHOICE old-time sphalerite from the Dr. Gary Hansen Collection. The note on his box indicates it originally came from noted American dealer George English, dating the piece to prior to 1905. Valued at $600-800.
