Item Description

Ruizite is a incredibly rare hydrated calcium manganese hydroxy silicate that is only found in six places in the world. The species was named after a mineralogist and mineral collector named Joe Ruiz of Mammoth, Arizona. This piece just happens to be from the type locality, the Christmas Mine in Arizona. This piece was mined in 1977 and features soft orange color acicular "tufts" of Ruizite which are associated with small blue spots of Kinoite and greenish Gilalite on matrix. It's certainly a micro specimen, and we have photographed the specimen with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality and enhance the detail. This is the only piece of this species that we have to offer of this material and comes with a classic label from Josef Vajdak / Pequa Rare Minerals. You can read Joe's biography here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1371
