Item Description

Ali Abad (Aliabad) has produced some of the finest crystallized Sapphires from any locality in Pakistan. The combination of the vivid colors along with the highly lustrous and notably sharp, well-formed crystals has made these specimens icons in the mineral world. Good crystallized examples are notably hard to find, however and very little has been found in the last 10+ years. This piece features a fantastic, very sharp, highly lustrous, gorgeous purple color (more of a blue overtone in sunlight), doubly-terminated Sapphire crystal measuring 2.1 cm long beautifully perched atop a thin slab of white marble matrix. If you look closely at the faces on the Sapphire, they are incredibly well-formed and have a glistening luster, very rarely seen in Sapphire crystals from any world locality. The crystal is undamaged all around and shows a bit of embedded white marble in the center. Superb quality, and so hard to find in a competition worthy thumbnail. A very showy and fine quaity thumbnail example of this classic and seldom seen material. From the private collection (not inventory) of Herb Obodda (Specimen #3641). Valued at $1,200 in our inventory.
