Item Description

Tremorgio Lake is a mountain lake above Rodi and Fiesso, in the municipality of Prato Leventina in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. This piece comes from the collection of Francesco Bedogne, along with another label from A. Citran of Italy, and a third label from an unknown collection. I can't find a direct reference to this locality on mindat.org or webmineral.com, but a Google search did provide a few photos of additional crystals from the locality, so these genuine, and obviously VERY rare on the market!! This two crystal set features one very long, thing, prismatic, GEM quality, pale yellow crystal measuring 5.3 cm long, that is paired up with a thicker, yet shorter crystal of equal GEM transparency and a slightly richer darker yellow color (due to the thickness). Obviously the contrast / dichotomy makes this an appealing set as you can see the different styles found at Tremorgio Lake in the high Swiss Alps. The set is valued at $700. As I mentioned, these specimens are from the collection of Francesco Bedogne (Collection #1352). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
