Item Description

Scapolite is not a species, but is often assigned to gems as it is more recognizable to most collectors. The actual species are Meionite and Marialite. Here we have a good gem crystal with attrcative yellow color, and sharp, lustrous faces. It is VERY emmy and glows with color, even in a smaller sized specimen. This Tanzanian material is fairly new to the market, but already seems to be in very short supply in recent years. This is a nice thumbnail and it looks better in person. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1578) with another label from Roberto Palumbo of Rome. Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
