Item Description

A VERY hard to find group of crystallized Scapolite from Bear Lake diggings in Ontario. I honestly have never seen one of these before, and it's loaded with well-formed, sharp, prismatic, very pale yellow tetragonal prisms growing in multiple directions to create a showy and three-dimensional display specimen. The crystals measure up to 1.8 cm long, and while they are not gem quality, but they certainly pass light. The majority of the crystals are undamaged, and the only real damage I can see is around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket. I can't say for sure if this is Meionite or Marialite, so we're leaving it as "Scapolite", but it's certainly a very worthwhile piece of the elusive material. If you collect Scapolites or related species, or Canadian minerals, you can't afford to miss out on this rare display piece. Valued at $750. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9146). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
