Item Description

Scapolite is not a species, but is often assigned to gems as it is more recognizable to most collectors. The actual species are Meionite and Marialite. Nonetheless, Scapolite is much less common in purple crystals as most of them are either yellow or colorless. Purple Scapolites are often much smaller than their yellow or colorless counterparts, and they are one of the few purple minerals out there beyond more commonly known Fluorite, Kunzite (which is rarely truly purple) and Amethyst. This specimen is from a find in Afghanistan dating back to 2008 and features a very sharp, highly lustrous, incredibly well-formed, GEM quality, prismatic, purple crystal aesthetically flaring off white marble matrix. If you look around, you'll see that the vast amount of Scapolite crystals from Afghanistan are loose singles off matrix, and to have a showy and fine quality MATRIX specimen like this is quite rare. The crystal on this piece is nearly 100% WATER-CLEAR and measures 1.2 cm. Priced at $1,250 in the inventory.
