Item Description

A really cool old time specimen of Scheelite on Quartz from the famous locality at Cinovec / Zinnwald. Very small, but attractive, sharp, lustrous, translucent, soft golden color, pseudo-octahedral (bipyramdial tetragonal) crystals of Scheelite can be seen all over the underlying iron-included / iron-coated colorless Quartz crystals on matrix. The Scheelites are hard to spot, but if you put the piece under SW UV light, you will see them glowing a bright blue-white hue. There are actually a lot more crystals on the back of the specimen as you can tell from the UV photo that shows what looks like hundreds of them grown together. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1471). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). A very attractive display piece of this hard to find material from this old locality on the border between Germany and the Czech Republic.
