Item Description

A very hard to find specimen from the lesser-known Tamboras Mine in Peru featuring a gorgeous stacked group of pseudo-octahedral, dark brown crystals of Scheelite - the largest measuring 1.1 cm - sitting atop a matrix comprising GEM QUALITY, colorless, lustrous, sharp hexagonal prisms of Quartz, along with two rarely seen "Japan-Law" twins! A bit of light powdery yellow colored Stolzite is present on the piece as well. Collectors might be more familiar with the green Augelite crystals that were found at this mine several years ago, but these Scheelites predate them, and are exceedingly rare on the market. I can say confidently that this is the best Scheelite we've ever had to offer in the auctions from this mine, and the added bonus of the "Japan-Law" twinned Quartz makes it all the more appealing. Valued $1,500.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#111 CP), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
