Item Description

The Erongo Mountains have produced over the years what are perhaps the world's finest Schorl specimens of a variety of styles. This large cluster, with crystals up to 4.3 cm, is a good example of the locality. The black crystals have the well-known 'Mercedes' terminations, a good, prismatic form, good luster, and fine striations so dense that the prism faces resemble the grooves on a vinyl record. There are even traces of highly fluorescent Hyalite Opal, seen under UV light. The striations and luster made photography tricky - this is much better in person, and you see less and less of these on the market today. This is a particularly sharp example with a lot of unusual angles, looking more carved than nature-made, somehow. It is atypical, and beautiful!
