Item Description

RARE, rich and impressive large combination specimen from this most obscure California locality in Lassen County. Tapered sprays of lustrous, striated, jet-black schorl crystals, to about 5.2 cm, are richly and aesthetically scattered in the sculptural matrix amidst rosettes of pearlescent muscovite plates and creamy bladed cleavelandite. The specimen has a fine provenance having formerly been in the collection of Dr. Fred Pough, reknowned educator and author of the famous book, Field Guide to Gems & Minerals. Fred was a renowned Geology Professor, mineralogist, Curator at American Musuem of Natural History in New York, Director of the Santa Barbara Musuem, author and collector. He passed away in 2006. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection. Bob is a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. A MUST for the locality or species collector.
