Item Description

This is a different kind of Schorl that we're used to seeing from Erongo. The piece is almost reminds me of the "mushroom" Tourmalines from Myanmar that came out in the early 2000s. The crystal shows a classic trigonal form on the termination, but what makes it so unusual is that there seems to be a secondary generation / growth of dozens if not hundreds of small additional Schorl terminations on top of it. The predominant triangular lines of the original crystal can be seen, but it is highlighted by the countless sparkling terminations of the smaller crystals. Also, if you look along the sides of the piece, you'll see the prism faces are incredibly smooth and lustrous, but you can pinpoint the area where the smaller Schorls started overgrowing the main crystal, as they have that slight "mushroom" appearance I was talking about. The piece is in good shape, although there are couple nicks on the termination, and it's contacted underneath where it detached from the pocket wall. If you collect Tourmalines, or if you're a fan of morphology, don't miss out on this really special and one-of-a-kind Schorl. Valued in the inventory at $1,000. From the Collection of Shields Flynn.
