Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Canadian Schorl. This piece features sharp, well-formed, lustrous, prismatic, trigonal crystals of jet-black Schorl with individual crystals measuring up to 3.0 cm long. The crystals are in good shape on the display side, with only one real bruise that I can see. It's contacted on the back / bottom where it was removed from the pocket wall, but it's in great condition for what it is. Typically, the Schorls I've seen from Ontario are singles off matrix, or broken crystals on matrix, but a nice well-crystallized group like this is not common in my experience. The terminations show attractive first and second order pyramidal modifications, and look beauty up close. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#657). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
