Item Description

When one thinks of Mexican Scorodites, typically the El Cobre Mine or Ojuela Mine is that comes to mind. This piece is actually labeled as coming from the state of Sonora, which is a first for me, as I've never seen a Sonora Scorodite. The actual locality on the label is "Trinchera", which is the Spanish word for trench, but I can't find a listing for this locality anywhere. With that said, the piece is filled with sharp, tiny, lustrous, well-formed, silvery-blue colored crystals of Scorodite on host rock matrix. We photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. If you collect secondary ore minerals or minerals of Mexico, don't miss out on this attractive specimen with an odd locality designation. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7677). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
