Item Description

I can say that this one is a first. We've never seen a specimen of this material (or any other mineral) from the Iron mines at Otzenhausen. It's certainly a strange and interesting piece as it both a mineral specimen and a lapidary piece. A septarian nodule of solid banded / multicolor Siderite was sliced in half and polised to reveal the attractive interior. The piece almost has an organic quality, and I thought of a turtle shell when I first saw it. The colors range from rich caramel hues to reddish brown and dark semi-metallic black hues at the center. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4924). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
