Item Description

These classic Siderite specimens from the Eagle mine are some of the most recognizable and attractive Rhodos from Colorado. They are not the typical blocky rhombic habit like those seen from a lot of other ore bodies in Colorado, but rather highly compressed rhombs that usually form beautiful "rosettes". This piece hosts dozens of sharp, semi lustrous, pinkish-brown color flattened siderite rhombohedra (that look like brown Rhodochrosite in habit and so are often called that on old labels) with a sprinkling of bright Pyrite crystals on matrix. This mine is long defunct and will never produce these specimens again. They are highly prized among Colorado collectors for their unique form and obvious beauty. The piece was from the famous Colorado collection of Richard Kosnar (his handwritten tag is seen on the underside of the piece) and was also in the collection of Brian Kosnar (his number BK291 is seen on the underside of the piece as well).
