Item Description

Lustrous, light brown, flattened, siderite rhombs with contrasting glassy, quartz crystals cover the blocky matrix of massive siderite with quartz on this excellent old-timer from a less-well known German locale - the Friedrich-Wilhelm Mine, Horhausen. Ex J. Cilen and Robert Whitmore Collections and comes with two labels. The Cilen Collection must have been extensive with the 11,441 catalogue number! The Hugh Ford label dates from 1946-57. If Horhausen is correct on the labels, then the St. Georges Mine name is incorrect, according to Mindat. We believe the correct locality for this specimen is the Georg Mine in Westerwald, Rhineland-Palatinate. Many older labels place the mine in Horhausen which is a nearby and better known site but was not accurate.
