Item Description

While Silver has been found in thousands of localities around the world, some of the finest and most well-known specimens are those from Kongsberg, Norway. This historic mining district dates back nearly 400 years, and produced some of the most impressive and recognizable specimens of wire Silver and crystallized ever found. This particular specimen is an attractive small cabinet sized piece featuring attractive crystallized groups of Silver with a lovely patina associated with minor Calcite (which has been partially etched away) sitting on matrix. Some of the crystals have a "leaf"-like appearance, while others are more dendritic. It's certainly an attractive piece (best viewed up close) and would make a great addition to a suite of native elements, or a collection of European classics. You don't see many matrix Silvers from Kongsberg on the market these days. Valued at $1,200 retail. The piece comes from the collection of Brian Kosnar.
