Item Description

Smithsonite is found in a full spectrum of colors from around the world. Most Smithsonites are not truly gem quality, but they can be gemmy/translucent enough that they would make for good stones. Typically Smithsonite is cut into cabochons, but we got a small parcel of very gemmy material from Touissit, Morocco, and sent it off to be faceted. The specimen was badly damaged, but showed some of the best gem quality Smithsonite I had seen from the locality, so I figured this was a great opportunity to give collectors a few faceted stones from this hard to find locale. I've never had gems from Touissit to offer for sale in any venue, so don't miss out because once these are gone, I don't know when or if I will have them again. Keep in mind that material like this will always disappear quickly due to the fact that the stones have good color, and not the less than desirable brown, yellow or dingy green hues. This material is what I would consider to be the top color (for the general size of the stones) for this locality. This gem is a beautiful "Round" cut stone with lovely light blue color and a soft velvety interior. It's nearly half a carat, which I consider to be worthwhile for the locality, and the color is best seen under indoor fluorescent lighting I've found. If you collect rare gems or just worldwide Smithsonites, this is a great chance to pick up this attractive stone for your collection.
