Item Description

A classic Smithsonite specimen that was found in the ancient Hilarion Mine in Lavrion, Greece. featuring a vug containing attractive green colored spherical Smithsonite aggregates measuring up to 5 mm on oxidized matrix. The Smithsonite gets its color from copper content. Some stark white Calcites can be seen overgrowing the Smithsonites for a nice touch. Most of the spheres are undamaged, though there is one contacted spot that I can see, so they're not all pristine. Specimens from Lavrion are some of the most well-known old time classics from any European locality, as mining has taken place dating back to the Bronze Age.
