Item Description

A classic specimen from the famous 79 Mine featuring radial groups of semi velvety / vitreous, rich green color Smithsonite on matrix, creating an eye-catching overall specimen. The piece is crystallized on both sides and the only real damage is around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. A small amount of associated white "discs" of Calcite can be seen on the piece as well, which is not commonly seen from this mine. The color in the Smithsonite is due to copper content creating a lovely strong green tone, and is not a "dingy" green that you see in other Smithsonites from this locality. If you're an Arizona collector, or a Smithsonite collector, don't pass this one up, as it is a worthwhile Smithsonite for what it is. Mined in the 1990s. Priced in the inventory at $1,200.
