Item Description

Sculptural, botryoidal, and lustrous, this exceptionally beautiful lavendar-colored Smithsonite grew as a thick crust around a stalactitic matrix. Color and quality indicate that this fine Smithsonite is from the older, 1970's finds at Choix (not the later finds circa late 1990s), and the good luster and uniform color really show in this 3-dimensional specimen. In fact, the attractive lavendar color of this Smithsonite, with a rounded or botryoidal habit, helps differentiate it from all other localities. They have found more material at this site in recent years, but few approach the luscious, waxy look and color of this old material. Quite aesthetic, with form, color, and luster all adding to the quality of this small cabinet specimen, which Jack bought from the great dealer Walt Lidstrom in the early 1980s. There are numerous references to Jack and his collection in print, but perhaps a good tour of the collection and its history will help give perspective on just how good, and important, this collection is: https://www.irocks.com/the-jack-halpern-collection
