Item Description

Smithsonite is a highly popular mineral due to the fact that it's found in many localities around the world in wide variety of styles and colors. Some of the most colorful examples of the species are those from Choix, Mexico, where the intensity of the Smithsonite is about as strong as you'll find in the species. I've seen nearly every color of the rainbow exhibited in these specimens, including pieces that show multiple colors like this piece. This small cabinet specimen hosts a coverage of rather vitreous, gemmy spherical aggregates of Smithsonite starting with a rich blue-green hue on the upper portion which gives way to a vibrant glowing blue color toward the middle, and ending with an almost silvery-purplish color on the other end. The transition of colors is beautiful and is quite distinctive for the locality. Very little damage, and it looks wonderful with some backlighting. Valued at $1,750. From the collection of Sean Lincoln.
