Item Description

The Skorpion Mine is well-known for producing some of the world's finest specimens of Tarbuttite, but the elusive beautiful blue Smithsonites from this locality deserve to get some attention as well. This is a cool piece of the rarely seen material featuring translucent, pale blue-green colored, botryoidal aggregates of Smithsonite aesthetically sitting on a layer of sparkling gemmy, colorless micro crystals (which are either Hemimorphite or Tarbuttite) on host rock matrix. The largest Smithsonite "ball" measures 9 mm at its widest dimension. It's a cool specimen from this well-known zinc mine, and you don't see them on the market anymore. This particular piece was mined circa 2010.
