Smithsonite stalactite section (old classic)

This is a classic ol drarity, from theheyday of these mines generally considered around 1900 or earlier. They only come out of old collections, anymore. A highlight of old collections was to get a Laurium stalactitic smithsonite, sliced to show the banding. Most are gray or ugly - this nice blue color should be considered rare. Highly polished on both sides and with just a thin veneer of drusy white quartz on the exterior, this polished smithsonite slice exhibits great luster and translucence with superb, sky blue color. When backlit, the specimen clearly exhibits multiple lines of banding similar to that observed in fortification agates. Just stunning and rare, an old classic. valued $2500.
