Item Description

A dramatic, rare and rich large combination from this old Montana district. Famous US dealer George English (1864-1944) handled specimens from here around 1900 and this exceptional old-timer dates to that era. The impressive and sculptural intergrown cluster of lustrous, mostly opaque black smoky quartz crystals is richly included with black tourmaline. The dominating, stout upright doubly terminated crystal is 6.7 cm and has a contacted and bruised on one side termination. One large horizontal crystal is 7.7 cm and the doubly terminated, nearly pristine crystal beneath it is 8.0 cm long. MINDAT does not list MUSCOVITE for the locale, but the bottom of the piece is covered with tiny pearlescent muscovite plates. From an East Coast collection and comes with a faded century-old label. A UNIQUE and fascinating large 360-degree combination old-timer from the Little Pipestone District. A MUST for the species or locality collector.
