Item Description

Old-time smoky quartz specimens from this obscure San Bernadino County pegmatite are uncommon. A pristine, 6.5 cm, sharply terminated, limpid smoky with fine light color is adorably attached to matrix of smaller crystals. The subtle stepped-growth faces on the water-clear, highly lustrous faces adds real pizzazz to this outstanding small cabinet. The piece has artistic 360-degree visual presence and multiple fine display views. All of the small smokies adjacent to the large crystal are pristine. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 2837 and acquired in the Summer of 1963. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record) and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). RARE and excellent old-time California smoky quartz.
