Item Description

A 12.8 x 6.5 x 4.4 cm, sharply terminated smoky quartz crystal is proudly set on the sculptural large combination matrix on this impressive specimen from the famous Tourmaline King Mine of California. The fine smoky is gemmy to translucent, glassy, lustrous and the stepped-growth prism faces dramatically enhance the crystal. The smoky termination is artistically accented by the field of lustrous cleavelandite blades with pearlescent muscovite plates that mostly cloak a 6.4 cm long, lustrous schorl crystal (1.6 cm exposed at the schorl termination). The interesting rounded area at the top of the microcline matrix is where the drill bit intersected the vug - without damaging the smoky. The microcline matrix has artistic graphic quartz inclusions on the back, adding even more character. Collected circa 2022-23. this is 1518 grams or 3.3 pounds mass. A very fine and uncommon large smoky quartz combination from the historic pegmatite.
